Our Prediction:

New Zealand will win

New Zealand – South Africa Match Prediction | 22-09-2019 05:45

South Africa are set to receive a big boost in their bowling department as pace bowler Lungi Ngidi has been cleared fit to play and he will likely replace Beuran Hendricks in the playing eleven. Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi will lead the team's bowling attack. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock will be opening the South African batting with Aiden Markram and Faf du Plessis to walk in at numbers three and four respectively. The rest of their line-up is expected to remain unchanged for this must-win clash against New Zealand.

New Zealand has been playing exceptionally well this time around. South Africa, for that matter, has had a rather sad start in this edition of the World Cup. However, they did manage to mark their first win in the ICC World Cup 2019 against Afghanistan. Theyve always been a decent team; however, theyre in a lot better form and have been playing consistently well.

Weve seen a total of 70 matches being rummaged between these two world-class teams over the years with South Africa holding a massive lead. Theyve win 41 matches as opposed to just the 24 for New Zealand while weve had 5 matches being truncated owing to murky weather conditions. The only match to be played in Edgbaston, the location for todays match saw South Africa come out on top.

If they do make the change, they would have to leave out one of Lockie Ferguson or Matt Henry. They have not felt the need to make any changes to their side since their opening game against Sri Lanka. Mitchell Santner is the lone spinner in the side. But given South Africas weakness against wrist spin, the Black Caps may be tempted to bring in Ish Sodhi. New Zealand have no injury worries ahead of their clash against South Africa. Martin Guptill and Colin Munro will be opening the batting while Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor will be taking up their usual number three and four positions respectively. Pace bowlers Matt Henry and Trent Boult will probably take the new balls.

NZ vs RSA Live Score

Chasing 312 runs against England, Quinton de Kock (68) and Rassie van der Dussen (50) were the only batsmen with significant scores. Bowling is only one of their woes, as their batting wasnt great either when they finished 227-9 against India and lost the match by 6 wickets. The batting has been very inconsistent for South Africa. Though the bowlers must have taken some confidence from their last match against Afghanistan, they will be up against a strong New Zealand batting line-up and will require much disciplined execution of their game plans.

The Proteas have the upper hand in terms of the recent head-to-head count in ODIs with four wins in the last six encounters. With Lungi Ngidi back, South Africa now look a stronger bowling unit and we feel that the scales are tipped slightly more in their favor. New Zealand, on the other hand, are high on confidence and have the momentum on their side. South Africa are under a lot of pressure and they know it very well that one more defeat could throw them out of contention for the race to semi-finals. However, they have been facing relatively weaker teams until now and South Africa will be a much stiffer challenge for them.

Hashim Amla has been making the same mistakes over and over, which for a player of his class and experience is just inexcusable. Quinton de Kock needs to start converting his fifties into centuries and Faf du Plessis must accept the fact that he is South Africas best batsman. South Africas senior players must step up and take responsibility.

Faf du Plessis is among the top ten ODI batsmen in the world and has scored 100 runs in his previous two innings. de Kock has been their most impressive batsman so far in this World Cup with 186 runs in five matches which includes a couple of half-centuries. Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen are South Africa's biggest hopes as far as batting is concerned.

Things wont be easy though for New Zealand on Wednesday. They havent played in over a week now, a long unwanted break which is bound to have broken the momentum they had garnered. Also, in South Africa they face their sternest and trickiest test till date, a side who are revitalized after registering their first win of the tournament.

New Zealand vs South Africa 25th Match Prediction

We are not sure if Lungi Ngidi is going to be available for this match but the likelihood of him missing out is more. It is not going to be easy. Forget the fact that South Africa has not done well in must-win matches in the past, injuries to their leading fast bowlers have put them in a difficult place.

Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson hold the key to New Zealand's bowling. Ferguson has been their most successful bowler so far with eight wickets in three games at a very impressive economy of 3.88. He notched a four-wicket haul against Afghanistan and (if played) will look to follow that up with another stellar performance. Trent Boult has managed to pick up only three wickets so far but his ability to swing the ball both ways makes him the danger man with the new ball.
