Another Tomas Howard point shortly followed , however David Murphy again rewarded his Banteer team mates for their determind play by raising his second green flag shortly follwed with a Roche point. A delighted Mikie O Gorman accepted the cup on behalf of the Dromtarriffe Hurling squad. In the 6th minute Banteer were awarded awarded another free, which was converted, the next passge of playresultingwith Dromtarriffe downto 14 after a melee of players contestinga ball that wasn't coming out, resulted witha player receiving his second yellow. After the first quarter, there was just three points between the sides two Tomas Howards points , one from a free, followed by a Darren O Connor point, were followed by a Conor Cremin goal, to leave Dromtarriffe well in a commanding position in the 25th minute. An O Keeffe and Conor Cremin combination was finished to the net by O Keeffe in the 10th minute followed by three points one each for the Howard brothers, Sean & Tomas and a second one for Evan Murphy before Banteer through David Murphy reacted first from a batted out ball to goal. A brace of Tomas Howard points eased the Dromtarriffe supporters worries with the final white flag being raised by Banteer from play in the 32nd minute of the second half, to leave the final whistle register Dromtarriffe winning their first league title on the 2-20 to 3-14 scoreline. With nineteen minutes remaining on the clock, Dromtarriffe were going to earn this title if they were to hold out for the victory and ever reliable Tomas kept his sides scores ticking over with a free in the 12th minute keeping Dromtarriffe seven ahead , 2-18 to 3-8. Entering stoppage time points were exchanged between Murphy for Dromtarriffe and Banteers Denis Roche to leave the interval scoreboard read Dromtarriffe 2-15 Banteer 3-6. Banteer were to add a point from play before a number of frees that were correctly awarded were deemed by the match official, as vocal player protests, which warranted these being brought into a more scoreable position, thus resulting in the gap being closed between the 13th and 21st minutes of the second half, to just two points. Dromtarriffe started the second half well with points by Evan and Tomas either side of two Banteer frees but quickly it seemed as though Banteer had forumalated a determind second half fightback plan of action during their half time deliberations, through imposing pressure in ever sector of the pitch. The Duhallow Championship semi final will be the next major challenge for this sqaud. Another historic title was secured by our Junior hurlers last Friday night in Kilbrin when Dromtarriffe defeated Kilbrin by three points on a final scoreline of Dromtarriffe 2-20 Banteer 3-14, after withstanding a second half come back from their opponents before a good attendance. The opening seven minutes registered five points for Dromtarriffe to Banteers three through Evan Murphy, Tomas Howard, Daniel O Keeffe, Jack Murphy and Kevin Cremin, before Banteer took the lead through an 8th minute Denis Roche goal, equalised a minute later from a Howard free. With a solid defense required, Dromtarriffe were well served, in particular by, the ever dependable and hard working Kevin Cremin, along with Michael O Brien and Captain Mikie O Gorman.

With the game nip and tuck, goals were always going to be important, credit Newmarket on responding to the concession of the first green flag to square up the game. Crucially for Dromtariffe, they succeeded again on breaking down the opposing rearguard, hesitancy in the Newmarket defence allowed Conor Cremin feed Daniel O'Keeffe to net for a clear seven point advantage at the break.

Clonakilty were victorious, due in no small part to the return of Mick Finn to action: the games had gone on so long that hed had time to recover from the broken hand sustained almost two months earlier. The west Cork men won 3-5 to 0-5, a surprisingly wide margin for two teams which couldnt be separated for so long.

In fairness, Newmarket offered flashes of potential, their best chance of a goal flashed wide of the post before points to Barry O'Connor, Donal Hannon and Ryan O'Keeffe helped force parity for the third occasion. Soon Dromtariffe signalled their intent, a defence splitting moves saw Evan Murphy and Daniel O'Keeffe involved to allow full forward Conor Cremin blast to the net for a goal out of the top drawer.

Appearing in their initial decider, Dromtariffe waited 133 years to enjoy a day of immense hurling joy, their voracious appetite for silverware clearly evident where the dream became a reality. When it mattered, Dromtariffe weren't found wanting, showing massive resolve to come out on top thanks to a productive opening half from a young side that brought a delightful brand of hurling to this game, showing excellent touch and an ability to pick off scores.

However a well organised and gutsy Dromtariffe peppered the proceedings with tasty hurling, and aside from the opening 20 minutes or so, the new champions had the answers to whatever questions they were asked. Newmarket could had little complaints as their overall performance levels were well down on what most neutrals had come to expect of a fancied side that impressed to take a league title last month and enjoyed a seven point win over Dromtariffe earlier in the campaign.
